World Wide Packaging, Inc. (WWP) was the big winner at the Tube Council’s annual Ted Klein Tube of the Year 2007 competition, winning the top award in three categories and all the awards given to plastic tubes.

WWP’s winning tube creations are: Plastic Tube of the Year—for the tube created for Del Labs’ Sally Hansen Gentle Peel for Rough Lips product; Best Personal Care Tube of the Year—for the unique tube it created for Mary Kay’s TimeWise Targeted Action Line Reducer; Most Innovative Tube of the Year—for the 100% customized tube it created for Avon’s Anew Clinical Spider Vein Therapy product.

The tubes were judged on package graphics, decoration, shape, closure, texture, ease-of-use, consumer appeal and technical merit. There were approximately 28 separate entries for each category. The distinctive Avon tube also made WWP a winner in the “Skin Care Mass” category of the International Package Design Awards, announced during the HBA show in New York City.
Surefil Expands Capabilities
Surefil, LLC, a Grand Rapids, MI, contract manufacturer for the personal care and medical industries, and a producer of shampoos and conditioners in the U.S. market, has added an advanced clean-in-place (CIP) system.

The new CIP system cleans, rinses and sanitizes all of Surefil’s mix and compounding vessels, process piping, hold tanks and fillers. Hot water, now pressurized by Surefil, rinses the system, while chemicals sanitize it. Surefil’s standard procedure is that all equipment must be used within four hours or it must undergo the sanitization process again. The CIP system is augmented with a new clean-out-of-place system purchased from Sanamatic Corp. The semi-automated system ensures effective cleaning and sanitization of manufacturing parts such as tri-clover fittings, strainers, filter housings, gaskets and other items used in the manufacturing process.
